Overview of Hot Tubs |
A hot tub is your private home spa where you can relax body and mind in a room-size warm-water pool. You can install a hot tub indoors, perhaps in a solarium or in a recreation room built for that purpose. Or you can install a hot tub on your outdoor deck or patio and soak up some rays while easing muscle tension. Either way, you are bound to get plentiful use from your personal home hot tub spa. A swim spa can set above ground or be installed in the ground, depending on the best fit and location for your home. |

Enjoy the jets’ pulsing water streams on your tired or overworked body, especially thighs, back, and shoulders. Water therapy has long been recognized as conducive to good health and mental well being.
Hot tubs are often a one-piece fiberglass structure that comes with a lifetime structure warranty. Typically 4’6” inches in depth, they might use a 1-5 HP 2-speed pump. Unlike a vinyl pool, there are no liners to replace. The entire unit can be installed in short order, making it ready for use in a matter of hours in many cases. You can purchase a permanent unit that will be constructed as part of a new or existing home. Or you can get an aboveground model that can be taken down easily for moving. The components of your swim spa, when disassembled, will fit through just about any home doorway.
Pumps, filters, and heaters are accessory items that you will want to get for your hot tub. However, since your swim spa is much smaller than a regular pool, these items tend to be relatively inexpensive and simple to maintain. Ask if they are included in the price of the tub at the time of purchase, or whether you should plan to buy them separately.

Also determine whether they are covered by the warranty and where to replace or repair them, if needed. The heating unit and jet sprays may be adjustable so that your swim time can be rearranged to suit your mood on a particular day.
Set the heat thermostat for the tub at about 102 degrees, but turn it down when you know the tub will not be used for a while or when you plan to be away from home. Close the Air Control valves when the spa is not in use. |

When open, the valves let in cold air that can increase the hot tub’s heating bill, and they also allow airborne debris to enter the hot tub. Clean your filter cartridge monthly for maximum operation and to ensure longevity, and replace it every year or two. Depending on how many people use the tub, and how often, you can probably drain it every three or four months.
